How to Hide Acne Scars With Makeup
Overview
While 85 percent of teenagers have acne each year, millions of adults have acne as well, notes the American Academy of Dermatology. Many people with acne feel that pimples are unattractive, but are especially embarrassed by the scars often left behind as a result of squeezing or popping pimples. Prevention of acne and refraining from picking at pimples is the best way to avoid scarring, but when scars do appear, you can try to hide them with makeup.
Step 1
Wash your face with a mild, oil-free cleanser and dry your face with a clean towel. Apply a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer so that makeup will not settle into areas where skin is dry.
Step 2
Apply a foundation primer to your entire face. This will allow makeup to rest more smoothly on the skin and to appear more even.
Step 3
Dip your finger in a pot of concealer and apply concealer on the scars, beginning with the deepest ones. A cover stick can substitute for concealer. Make sure the concealer raises the scar to an even level with the rest of the face. Wait 15 minutes and repeat the process.
Step 4
Apply a thin layer of oil-free, noncomedogenic foundation over the entire face. Follow with a light dusting of translucent powder to set the makeup in place.
