How to Help Clear Up Acne

Overview

Acne breakouts can make the skin irritated and inflamed, making it not only an embarrassing condition, but also a painful one. While acne can be treated with over-the-counter skin-care products, there are a few ways to help heal acne faster. These treatments include a soothing oatmeal mask that will calm irritation caused by acne, an antibacterial oil that will kill acne-causing bacteria quickly, and a lightweight oil that will keep the skin's oil production in balance.

Step 1

Reduce inflammation by applying a soothing oatmeal mask. Pour 1/2 cup of raw oats and 1 cup of boiling water into a bowl, stirring it well with a spoon. Wait until the mixture cools down completely, then use your fingers to spread it onto your skin. Allow the oatmeal to remain on the skin for at least 10 minutes, then wipe off the mask into a trash can. Rinse the skin well with water. Repeat once per day.

Step 2

Kill off acne-causing bacteria and microbes by applying diluted tea tree oil to the skin. Fill an empty bottle with 8 oz. of water, and add five drops of pure tea tree oil into it. Shake the mixture well. Dip a cotton swab into the diluted oil, then apply the diluted oil directly to the acne breakouts. Repeat up to three times per day.

Step 3

Apply a light, non-comedogenic oil to keep the skin hydrated, which will help balance out the oil production in the skin. Drop three to five drops of jojoba oil into your palm, and rub the palms together to evenly distribute the oil. Pat the oil onto your skin, avoiding rubbing it in. Continue to pat the skin until the oil has soaked into the face completely. Repeat two times per day.
