How to Heal Acne on the Back of Arms How to Heal Acne on the Back of Arms

Overview

Acne can flare up on any part of the body, including the backs of the arms, the face, chest and back. When acne appears on the backs of the arms, it can make the arms feel bumpy, painful and irritated. In order to clear acne on the back of the arms, it is important to clean, medicate and moisturize this part of the body. Following this plan will keep the arms clear, while maintaining the natural softness and suppleness of the skin.

Step 1

Cleanse the arms with a soap formulated for sensitive skin types. Acne blemishes on the arms can cause the skin to become more sensitive than normal. Using a standard soap can irritate the skin and can worsen acne. Instead of using a regular soap, wash the skin using a soap designed for sensitive skin types. Wet the arms, then lather up the skin on the arms well from as sensitive skin soap. Rinse the area well. Avoid scrubbing the arms, which can exacerbate the skin. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Apply a low-concentration benzoyl peroxide cream to the arms. Benzoyl peroxide cream delivers oxygen to the skin, which kills off acne-causing bacteria, and also dries up active acne pustules. Using a lower concentration cream will effectively clear the acne on the backs of the arms without causing redness or irritation. Spread a dime-sized amount of a 2.5 percent concentration benzoyl peroxide cream or lower onto the back of each arm. Smooth the cream around the skin until it has been completely absorbed. Repeat twice per day after cleansing the arms.

Step 3

Moisturize the arms with an oil-free body lotion. Using a benzoyl peroxide cream can be drying on the skin, so in order to maintain a natural softness on the area of the arms treated, it is important to apply an oil-free body lotion. Squeeze a silver-dollar-sized amount of oil-free body lotion, and spread it evenly onto the backs of the arms. Use the fingers to gently massage the oil-free lotion onto the arms until it has soaked in. Repeat two times daily after using benzoyl peroxide cream.
