Healthy skin and hair reflects your overall health. When skin your skin is flushed, acne-prone, dry or has a rash, illness or stress may be to blame. Looking after your skin and hair will help them look their best--smooth, blemish-free skin and shiny, bouncy hair. Use a combination of good grooming and a well-balanced diet to get healthy looking skin and hair.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin and hair regularly. Cleanse your face twice a day to remove sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells that could clog pores and lead to blemishes.

Hair cleansing depends on the type of hair you have. If you have oily hair, you may need to shampoo it daily, while you should only wash drier hair two to three times a week. Shampooing your hair removes build-up from styling products as well as dirt, oils and bacteria. This helps keep your scalp clean, which keeps your hair healthy.

Step 2

Moisturize your hair and skin. Moisture locks in hair's shine while keeping skin firm and blemish-free. Condition your hair after each washing using a conditioner made for your type of hair. Using separate shampoos and conditioners will eliminate hair being weighed down and flat.

Moisturize your skin every time you wash it. Retinol facial moisturizers are ideal for nighttime. In addition to moisturizer, use a sunscreen every day to prevent UV ray damage.

Step 3

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. These foods are high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals, which are essential to hair and skin health.

Step 4

Avoid stress by performing simple stress-reducing techniques, such as yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation. Stress can have serious implications on your complexion and hair, causing skin to dull and pale while making hair look lifeless and dull.

Step 5

Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day. Water keeps skin and hair hydrated. Hydration is important for hair growth and skin healing as well as collagen fiber production.

Step 6

Avoid nicotine, caffeine and alcohol. These are toxins that promote premature aging and dryness in skin and hair. Premature wrinkles, leathery skin, dull and dry hair, and hair breakage are all side effects of use of these products.
