Overview

Acne can be seriously irritating to your skin. Because it's so irritating, it can leave your skin looking inflamed and pink, making your blemishes even more noticeable. While your acne is healing, there are things you can do to reduce the pink pigment and help your blemishes fade or at least blend in with the rest of your skin. The key is to reduce inflammation.

Step 1

Wear sunblock. Use at least an SPF 15 sunblock every day. This will prevent sun damage, which can make acne look redder and more inflamed. If you're using an acne treatment like benzoyl peroxide, it's even more important to use sunblock, as these treatments make your skin extremely sensitive to the sun.

Step 2

Moisturize your skin. Use moisturizer each morning and evening after cleansing. Make sure it is an oil-free formula to prevent clogging your pores and further breakouts. Applying a moisturizer regularly will keep your skin hydrated, prevent your skin from peeling due to dryness caused by acne treatments and reduce inflammation.

Step 3

Use an anti-inflammatory cream. These creams cut down acne pinkness. Some mild steroid creams may be helpful or prescription creams that contain dapsone can reduce inflammation and make your acne less pink.

Step 4

Apply an oatmeal mask. Combine raw ground oats and boiling water. Once cooked, allow the oatmeal to cool until it's warm, then apply it to your skin evenly. Set a warm washcloth over your face to allow the oatmeal to steam into your pores. After five minutes, rinse well. Repeat twice a day to reduce inflammation and soothe pink pigmentation caused by acne.
