Overview

Darkened skin has many causes, such as exposure to the sun and aging. Most discolored areas are medically insignificant and do not constitute a threat to health or represent illness. However, they tend to look ugly and may be embarrassing. Treatment for skin discoloration involves using a bleaching agent such as lemon juice that can lighten skin and diminish discoloration.

Step 1

Cut a lemon into quarter pieces. Store three of the slices in an airtight container for future use. Do not refrigerate.

Step 2

Rub the lemon quarter over the darkened area at night right before going to bed. Do not rinse or wash off the lemon juice until morning. If the juice stings your skin and is uncomfortable, squeeze the lemon over a glass and add 1 tbsp. of water to the juice. Dip a cotton ball in the diluted juice and apply the mixture to darkened areas.

Step 3

Shower normally in the morning to remove the juice from your skin.

Step 4

Repeat the process for as many weeks as it takes to bleach the dark areas.
