How to Get Rid of Pimples, Zits & Blemishes
Acne is a common condition that consists of pimples, zits and blemishes on the skin. In a quest for smooth, glowing skin, those suffering from this condition often search for remedy to eliminate these unsightly marks and spots. Although proper diet is essential for achieving great skin, it may not be enough. Employing a skin care regimen that involves special treatments is a requirement. Following specific guidelines will help fight skin imperfections, and leaving your skin soft, supple and refreshed.
Wash your face at least two times a day using tepid water and a pH-balanced cleanser. Avoid soap products containing perfumes, chemicals or sulfur. Cleanse the skin by massaging it in a circular motion, and rinse well.
Treat the skin by applying a lotion containing benzoyl peroxide to help decrease bacteria and oil. Topical treatments containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid are also effective. These treatments can be obtained over the counter and by prescription. Be sure to apply the treatment to your entire face and not just the affected area.
Avoid alcohol-based products to prevent stripping natural moisture from the skin.
Avoid popping your zits and pimples, since popping them may cause further irritation, redness, swelling and scarring due to bacteria from the infected area being pushed further into the skin. It is recommended that you avoid touching your face with your fingers and with objects such as phones. Skin residue and sebum collects on these types of items, and when they come in contact with your skin, bacteria can cause inflammation of the pores. Always wash your hands before touching your face to apply skin creams or makeup.
Steam your face. To do so, boil water in a pot, then wrap your head and face in a towel and hold your face over the pot. Be sure to move your face away from the heat when it feels too hot. When all the steam is gone, remove the towel from your face and rinse your face with cold water. Repeat this process at least three times a week.
Consume foods such as nuts, blueberries, apricots and carrots as well as other orange and yellow fruits and vegetables. Be sure to include tomatoes, spinach and other leafy green vegetables, lentils, beans, peas and fish such as seafood in your diet as well. Limit your sugary food intake and opt for whole-grain breads and pastas. According to the Mayo Clinic, these are "skin-friendly" foods, which promote healthy skin as well as better health overall.
