How to Get Rid of Pimples Without Treatments
Pimples, a form of acne, are inflamed elevations in your skin that arise when the pores clog with dead skin cells, oil and bacteria. Pimples aren't usually a serious threat to your health, but they may be painful and cause you emotional anguish if you have trouble controlling them. Wash affected skin with warm water and a delicate cleanser. Washing frequently, scrubbing your skin and using harsh products such as astringents and grainy scrubs can irritate your skin and cause more pimples to emerge. Using a product formulated for sensitive skin, cleanse your skin only twice per day and use circular motions with clean fingers to work up a lather. If you develop pimples around your hair, shampoo every day to remove excess oil.
Use an over-the-counter acne product. Gels and creams that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help dry out any excess oil on affected skin and help dead skin cells peel off at a steady pace, according to MayoClinic.com. Use the smallest recommended dose to begin with -- usually only one application per day -- and work your way up to two to three times per day as long as you need it and it doesn't cause your skin to become red and irritated.
Apply only oil-free cosmetics and toiletries. Oily products can clog your pores and lead to more breakouts, but products labeled "oil-free," "non-comedogenic" and "non-acnegenic" are water-based and should reduce your risk of pimples. Whether or not your products are specially formulated, you should still clean them off every night with a gentle cleanser to avoid breakouts.
Cover your skin. Getting a suntan may initially cause your blemishes to blend into the background, but these benefits are temporary. Tanning may actually cause your skin to produce more oil, which may lead to more pimples. Additionally, excessive sun exposure can lead to more serious problems such as prematurely aged skin and skin cancer.
Keep your hands off. Habits such as resting your face on your hands when you are bored in class and rubbing your chin when you are thinking can spread oil and bacteria to your skin. Squeezing and picking at blemishes can lead to infections and permanent scars. Put on a pair of mittens, if you must, to prevent touching your skin, and wash your hands anytime you use the restroom, handle food or touch public objects such as handrails.
