How to Get Rid of Pimples Permanently How to Get Rid of Pimples Permanently

Pimples occur when follicles of the skin become clogged with dirt and bacteria, causing inflammation and infection. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin complaint in America. These tiny annoyances can occur all over the body, including the face, chest, back and neck. Pimples can become so numerous and severe that sometimes individuals who have them avoid social interaction. Getting rid of pimples requires attention to hygiene and persistently using the right products for cleaning and moisturizing.

Step 1

Wash your face with an antibacterial soap or cleanser and warm water twice a day. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, washing with harsh cleansers or washing too often can actually make pimples worse. Use a clean washcloth for cleansing and a new clean and dry washcloth to pat the area dry. Using the same cloth for washing and drying can spread bacteria and cause more pimples.

Step 2

Wash your hair with a noncomedogenic shampoo every day. If you have especially oily hair, wash it twice a day. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, oil and bacteria can be transmitted from hair to the pimple-prone areas of the upper body. Keeping your hair oil free will help get rid of existing pimples and keep new ones from appearing.

Step 3

Apply twice a day an over-the-counter topical acne cream, which is available at your local pharmacy. Buy a product that contains either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which are used to dry out the oils on the affected areas. Wash your hands and apply a thin layer on and around the affected areas. To prevent new pimples from occurring, continue to use topical pimple cream after the acne has cleared.

Step 4

Avoid extended exposure to the sun. According to, some individuals develop acne as a reaction to sun exposure. This may happen either because of an allergy or excess oil secretions in sweat. If you can't avoid the sun, be sure to use sunscreen that does not contain oils and is labeled noncomedogenic or water based. Check the labels of the topical acne products you use, because some of them can make your skin more sensitive to the sun.

Step 5

Avoid touching your face with your hands, phones or other objects that might come into contact with the affected areas. These are some of the easiest ways for bacteria to spread. According to, you should also avoid wearing tight fitting clothing and hats as well as any garments that can trap sweat and spread bacteria. Once the pimples have been healed, continue to be conscious of what touches the pimple-prone areas of your body. This can help get rid of them permanently.
