How to Get Rid of Pimples Now
Acne is common, not just in teenagers but also among adults. It arises when your skin's pores get clogged with oil, dirt or dead skin cells and become inflamed and infected with bacteria, according to the University of Virginia. By removing the clogging debris, reducing inflammation and killing the bacteria, you can immediately begin alleviating the size and redness of your pimples for smooth and flawless skin. You'll typically notice positive effects within 24 hours of beginning treatment, according to plastic surgeon Terry Dubrow, M.D., and health consultant Brenda Adderly, M.H.A., authors of "The Acne Cure."
Clean your skin twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening, with a mild facial soap. Avoid the urge to cleanse more often, as this will dry out your skin and aggravate your acne, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Spread a glycolic acid-based chemical peel product over your skin after cleaning it in the morning. "The Acne Cure" recommends any product formulated with 8 to 10 percent glycolic acid. The University of Virginia says glycolic acid immediately loosens blackheads and limits the size and severity of acne as it sloughs off dead skin cells and unclogs pores. This also helps future applications of acne medication penetrate your skin better.
Smooth on a topical acne cream or serum made with benzoyl peroxide. Apply it in the morning after your chemical peel, and again in the evening after washing your skin. Benzoyl peroxide helps decrease your skin's oil production, peels off dead surface skin cells and kills the bacteria that cause acne, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Apply a cold compress to the affected area for five to 10 minutes. This immediately reduces swelling to minimize the appearance of any present pimples, and also helps open your skin pores to better absorb the topical acne treatment.
Protect your skin with an oil-free moisturizer. The benzoyl peroxide has a drying effect and may make your skin feel momentarily itchy. The moisturizer helps prevent such discomfort.
