How to Get Rid of Pimples From Stress

Overview

Stress plays a role in many physical ailments, including such issues as acne or pimples. According to the Acne Resource Center, several studies have shown that stress worsens existing acne, because it slows down your body's natural healing process and stimulates the adrenal glands to produce hormones that exacerbate the condition. An effective stress-management program coupled with a daily skin care routine help alleviate stress-related skin conditions, such as pimples and acne. If your condition doesn't improve, you may benefit from a consultation with a dermatologist.

Step 1

Start a stress management program. According to HelpGuide.org, chronic levels of stress interfere with almost every system in your body. You owe it to yourself to put aside at least 30 minutes each day to help alleviate high levels of stress. Listen to a guided visualization program, learn to meditate or try tai chi.

Step 2

Learn yoga. According to Holistic Online's article "Conventional, Holistic and Integrative Treatments for Acne," yoga may help clear acne by increasing the blood flow to your face, which assists in flushing away toxins. Specific yoga poses, such as sun salutations and the cobra pose, may be particularly beneficial for treating acne. Yoga is also an effective tool for stress management.

Step 3

Wash your face every morning and evening before bedtime with an acne-fighting, oil-controlling facial wash. Wash your face again if you participate in exercise or intense physical activity, as sweat, dirt and debris clog your pores and lead to additional breakouts. Wash your face with lukewarm water, because water that is too hot can dry out your face and stimulate oil production.

Step 4

Apply an oil-controlling astringent or toner after you wash. Apply the toner gently using a cotton ball, and focus on the T-zone, the area of your forehead, nose and chin where breakouts are most likely to occur.

Step 5

Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil in an ounce of aloe vera gel. You can purchase aloe plants inexpensively in many grocery and garden stores. Break a leaf off the plant, and squeeze out the gel. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with the gel, and apply this mixture to spot treat pimples. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, tea tree oil is an effective antiseptic that helps kill bacteria and improve the symptoms of acne.

Step 6

Consult a dermatologist. According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, dermatologists can help by treating stress and your skin. Certain medications may relieve your acne, thereby alleviating any stress enhanced by your skin's condition.
