How to Get Rid of My Pregnancy Acne
Pregnancy changes a woman's body, skin, emotions and her whole life. The American Pregnancy Association states that acne is common during pregnancy due to the fluctuating levels of hormones such as estrogen in the woman's body. Dealing with pregnancy acne is complicated because not every acne treatment is safe during pregnancy.
Minimize stress as much as possible. Stress can trigger breakouts in some people. Decreasing acne by doing deep breathing exercises, gentle stretching, journaling, painting or chatting with a good friend can all help to balance your mood.
Wash your face twice a day so that your skin is clean and the pores are less likely to become clogged. BabyCenter.com states that if you use a mild cleanser to wash your face in the morning and night, there will be less oil and dirt on your skin, and you will be less likely to have acne.
Use pregnancy-safe acne treatments instead of harmful medications. The American Pregnancy Association states that acne washes, tones and creams with the ingredient benzoyl peroxide are generally recommended as safe for use during pregnancy.
Switch to oil-free and noncomedogenic products. Skin cleansers, sunscreens and makeup may all contain oil, which clogs the pores of the skin, making acne worse. BabyCenter.com states that you can reduce the amount of acne on your skin simply by choosing to use only oil-free products and those labeled noncomedogenic, which means they will not clog your pores.
Get enough vitamin A in your diet. Foods with vitamin A, such as milk, eggs, fish and carrots, can help to keep your skin balanced and healthy. But be aware that taking a vitamin A supplement may not be safe during pregnancy. It is best to eat foods rich in vitamin A that do not contain enough vitamin A to harm your baby when eaten in moderation.
