Overview

Dark spots anywhere on the body can be unsettling, but they're especially frustrating on your neck because they're so noticeable. Hyperpigmentation from healed acne lesions or even age spots can be the cause of these dark spots. Regardless of cause, treatment is pretty much the same, thankfully. Covering up these dark spots with your hair won't work forever. So, it's a good idea to start treatment sooner rather than later.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin with a mild face wash. Work the cleanser into a lather and apply to your neck, massaging it in gently. Rinse well. Make it a habit to wash your neck when you wash your face each morning and night.

Step 2

Use lemon juice to reduce the pigment of your dark spots. Freshly squeezed juice is best. Dab the juice onto the spots on your neck with your fingers. Let the juice dry, then rinse off with warm water. Your skin might turn red or itch after treatment. If this occurs, dilute the juice with water. Repeat this treatment every day to remove the top layer of skin, says the American Chronicle, which will encourage dark spots to fade.

Step 3

Use sunscreen on your neck every single day, no matter what. Purchase a brand that carries an SPF 30 rating and slather it onto your face and neck after cleansing. Make sure the formula is oil-free so it won't clog your pores. This will also prevent the development of age spots and the darkening of any spots you currently have.

Step 4

Apply hydroquinone cream just to your dark spots once per day. You can buy this cream over-the-counter in a mild formula that will bleach your dark spots without causing serious skin damage. Be careful in application, however, as using hydroquinone can permanently remove pigment from your skin and can damage the skin of those with darker skin tones.
