Overview

Blackheads and whiteheads are caused by the pores of the skin becoming clogged with impurities, such as bacteria, dead skin cells, dirt, and excess oils and sebum. Blackheads refer to oils that are inside the pores, which turn brown when exposed to oxygen. Whiteheads refer to clogged pores that become infected and develop pus, which appears white. When the skin has erupted with breakouts, it can make your face irritated and inflamed, and can lead to a lowered sense of self-esteem. To eliminate blackheads and whiteheads from the skin, it is important to apply treatments that will flush out the pores, remove pore-clogging dead skin cells and spot treat acne pustules.

Step 1

Unclog the pores and kill acne-causing bacteria with an antibacterial oil facial. Jojoba and tea tree oils are non-comedogenic, and will not clog the pores when applied to the skin. Pour 1 tbsp. of jojoba oil into your hand, and mix one drop of tea tree oil into it. Spread the oil mixture onto your skin, and use your fingers to massage the oil into the pores for 3 minutes. Fill a bowl with steaming hot, nearly boiling water. Lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl, and cover your head with a towel. This will cause the steam to billow over your face, allowing your pores to open and release the impurities. After 5 minutes, wipe off the oils with a moistened washcloth. You can apply an oil facial once per day to unclog the pores.

Step 2

Remove pore-blocking dead skin cells by applying a natural scrub. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of baking soda, 1 tbsp. of raw, ground oats, and 2 tbsp. of honey. Spread the mixture onto moistened skin, and use your fingers to gently massage it around your face for 3 to 5 minutes. After the allotted time has passed, wipe off the mixture into the bowl, and rinse off your skin with warm water. You can apply a natural scrub to remove dead skin cells up to three times per week.

Step 3

Spot treat active acne pustules with a 2.5-percent benzoyl peroxide cream. Benzoyl peroxide cream is a powerful acne-fighter that releases oxygen into the pores of the skin. Using the 2.5-percent benzoyl peroxide cream will clear acne without causing as much irritation as the higher-strength benzoyl peroxide creams. Place a pea-sized amount of benzoyl peroxide cream onto your finger, and dab the cream onto the active acne breakouts. Gently massage the benzoyl peroxide cream into the skin until it has been absorbed. You can apply benzoyl peroxide cream to the skin twice per day.
