Overview

Blackheads are a form of non-inflammatory acne that occurs when the skin becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells, according to Medical News Today. The blackhead is actually a skin "plug" that blocks the pore. When exposed to the air, the plug turns black. While blackheads are not medically threatening, they can be an annoying occurrence that disrupts otherwise clear skin. Fortunately, at-home remedies to reduce the oil and dirt in the pore can help to unplug the blackhead and reduce the development of future blackheads.

Step 1

Wash your face with a glycerin-containing soap. This natural soap will help to remove bacteria, dirt and oil from the area where blackheads have formed. This is helpful as you loosen the blackhead from the pore because you can avoid introducing harmful matter, such as bacteria, into the pore. You should wash your face twice daily in order to remove oil, dirt and makeup that can clog the pores and cause other blackheads to form.

Step 2

Apply a paste of baking soda and water to cleansed skin by rubbing it in circles over the blackhead, according to Acne Talks. Gently massage the area, then rinse off with warm water. This should help to remove and loosen some of your blackheads.

Step 3

Dip a cotton swab into squeezed lemon juice and dab onto the blackhead, according to Acne Talks. The lemon juice helps to tighten the pores, which can encourage the blackhead to lessen in appearance. Repeat this action two to three times per day.

Step 4

Crush fenugreek leaves and create a paste with water, according to Acne Talks. Apply this paste to your face at night before going to bed. Leave on the skin for 10 minutes, then rinse away with lukewarm water. Fenugreek serves as an anti-blackhead remedy and can help to reduce blackheads.
