How to Get Rid of Blackheads on the Chin

Overview

Blackheads are a kind of acne that doctors refer to as "open comedones." They often appear on the chin and other acne-prone areas. Blackheads are yellowish or black bumps that are full of sebum, the oily substance secreted by the sebaceous glands in the skin. The sebum in a clogged hair follicle turns dark when it oxidizes. You can, however, get rid of blackheads on your skin by applying the right products and using the right methods.

Step 1

Expose your face to steam to help release the sebum trapped inside your blackheads. Boil a pot of water and pour into a shallow bowl. Place your face over the bowl, then place a towel over your head so that it traps the steam inside the towel. Stay underneath the towel for at least 10 minutes. Wash your chin with warm water and a mild facial soap to get rid of any sebum released from your blackheads.

Step 2

Use an extractor to remove the sebum from your blackheads. An extractor is a tool that looks a lot like a scissors with loops on either end. Disinfect the tool and place the loops around a blackhead. Apply pressure slowly until the sebum releases from the blackhead. Make sure you are gentle with the tool; if you use it incorrectly you can scar your skin permanently.

Step 3

Use aloe vera to get rid of blackheads on your chin. According to Health Mad, aloe vera can speed up the skin's healing process to get rid of blackheads faster. This natural treatment is good for people who have sensitive skin because it contains no chemicals. Squeeze the liquid from an aloe vera leaf or buy aloe vera gel at the pharmacy. Ensure the gel contains a high amount of aloe vera, as some only have a small percentage. Rub the gel onto the blackheads on your skin and allow to evaporate.

Step 4

Make an appointment with your dermatologist if your blackheads do not respond to home treatment. He can prescribe a stronger topical cream. According to MayoClinic.com, doctors may prescribe creams which contain retinoid, a vitamin A derivative which can make skin cells produce more rapidly.
