Overview

Blackheads, also known as comedones, are clogged skin follicles often found on the face, neck, chest and back. The sebum or oily secretion clogs the follicles. The area appears to be a small dark or black marks because the residue is exposed to air. Learn how to rid your skin of blackheads by implementing several simple natural home remedies. Remember, a consistent skin regimen is necessary to keep the skin clean and blackhead-free.

Step 1

Apply lemon juice, a natural astringent, to your skin. Cut open a fresh lemon and squeeze the juice into a small saucer or cup. Apply the juice to freshly cleaned skin using a cotton ball. Allow it to sit for five minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water. Apply an oil-free lotion to the skin.

Step 2

Open pores and loosen clogged blackheads by steaming your face. Microwave a bowl of water for two minutes--enough to make the water steam. Add several drop s of eucalyptus or other essential oils for a natural aroma. Sit over the bowl and place a towel on your head. Allow the steam to penetrate your skin for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse the skin with warm water when complete.

Step 3

Create a blackhead peel. According to the 2002 book "Teen Beauty Secrets: Fresh, Simple and Sassy Tips for Your Perfect Look" by Diane Irons the peel remove clogged blackheads on the skin. Mix together 1 tbsp. unflavored gelatin and 2 tbsp. milk over low heat. Stir well to dissolve mixture and allow to cool. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to the face. Leave on for 30 minutes. Slowly peel back the mask.

Step 4

Use oil-free products. Apply makeup and facial lotions specifically stating that they are oil-free recommend the experts at Mother Nature. Some products contain fatty oils which can clog pores causing blackheads. Read labels and look for ingredients including lanolin, isopropyl myristate and sodium lauryl sulfate. These products, similar to oils, are too rich for the skin. Apply products that are "water-based" or "noncomedogenic" suggest the experts at the Mayo Clinic.
