How to Get Rid of Blackheads in Your Ears
Overview
According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," blackheads can form anywhere that sebum, the body's natural oil, is produced, including the ears. Blackheads form when the sebum oxidizes by coming into contact with oxygen in the air. The oxidized sebum turns dark gray or black, giving blackheads their dark appearance. Removing blackheads from the ears can be accomplished with a few minutes of time and a few items that you likely already have at home.
Step 1
Dampen a cotton swab with a few drops of water. Clean your ear, focusing on the areas with blackheads, with the cotton swab.
Step 2
Soak a washcloth in warm water. Wring out the excess water and hold the washcloth to your ear for 30 seconds. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," the warmth of the washcloth will dilate the pores in the ear, making it easier to remove the blackheads.
Step 3
Saturate a cotton swab in salicylic acid gel and gently apply the gel to the blackheads. According to "Handbook of Dermatology: A Practical Manual," the salicylic acid gel, which can be purchased at drugstores, is a chemical exfoliant that will remove the dirt and oil from the pores that are causing the blackheads.
Step 4
Soak a washcloth in cool water. Wring out the water and hold the washcloth to your ear. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," the coolness will constrict the pores, preventing them from becoming clogged again.
