Overview

Blackheads can make your skin look mottled and spotty. Caused by pores plugged by dirt and oil, according to Medline Plus, blackheads are sometimes known as open comedomes. As a man suffering from blackheads, you may notice that many acne products are geared towards women; fruity-smelling and cosmetic. If you want to remove blackheads, look no further than your kitchen cabinet to gather the ingredients you'll need to rid your skin of blackheads without all of the bells and whistles of women's skin products.

Step 1

Brush your skin with a dry, natural bristle brush. You can find them in the bath section of a department store, or in a beauty supply store. Dry brushing your skin helps to loosen the dirt and oil trapped beneath the skin's surface in preparation to removing blackheads, says natural health therapist Emma Mitchell.

Step 2

Soften both your skin and the blockage by taking a hot shower or applying a hot compress to your blackhead, suggests certified alternative health coach Rose Windale. Just run a washcloth under hot water and fold the cloth. Apply to the area for three to five minutes to help soften the blockage so it can be removed easily.

Step 3

Mix together a teaspoon of baking soda with a pint of distilled water, suggests DermaDoctor.com. Wet a cotton ball with the solution and apply to your blackhead. This will help to further loosen the dirt so you can apply pressure and remove the blackhead altogether.

Step 4

Wrap your index fingers in gauze and apply steady pressure to either side of the blackhead until it becomes dislodged. Immediately wash your face with antibacterial soap. Make sure that you don't press so hard that the pressure is painful; it could cause bruising or scarring if you're too rough with your skin.

Step 5

Schedule an appointment with a dermatologist if the blackhead isn't removed with pressure. Your dermatologist can use a metal lancet to remove the blockage, but it shouldn't be attempted at home since it can cause scarring and infection if not done properly.
