Overview

Acne is a common skin malady that can occur due to several different factors. It can have widespread affects and create long-lasting scars in the skin if not handled property. But acne is not the only type of skin problem that can yield big pimples. In fact, pimples can develop on their own in addition to cropping up among acne. These pimples are most likely to leave scarring on the skin since the inflammation and infection are so large. Large pimples are also very easy to spot, difficult to cover and can be embarrassing for those who have them. But, there are ways to treat them.

Step 1

Gently wash the pimple with hot water and a soft cloth. The hot water helps to soften your skin and raise the pus to its surface, making it easier to extract when the time comes. It is also important to wash your skin in order to keep bacteria, dirt and other contaminants off the skin. Using a mild cleanser will prevent harsh chemicals from further agitating your skin and potentially making your pimple worse. Any treatment of a pimple should always begin by cleaning the area.

Step 2

The Ladies Home Journal says you can place soft tissues over both of your index fingers and gently press at the sides of the pimple. Press gently in an effort to break the skin and release the pus from underneath. Only push hard enough to clear out the pus--pushing harder can lead to bleeding and, eventually, scarring. Eliminating the whitehead will help reduce the visibility of the pimple, but bleeding could only make things worse.

Step 3

Disinfect the location with rubbing alcohol or benzoyl peroxide, then use a healing cream like Neosporin and cover the pimple with a bandage to prevent irritants or contaminants from entering through the broken skin. After a few days, the blemish should have receded significantly and begun to heal. If your pimple does not heal or get worse, you may want to check with a dermatologist.
