How to Get Rid of Bad Acne
Living with bad acne isn't just a hindrance to your social life, it can also bring down your quality of life as large blemishes can be sore and painful to the touch. Even though bad acne is often stubborn to treatment, there are a few things that you can do to reduce your blemishes and banish acne for good.
Use a gentle face wash to cleanse your face each morning and night. You simply want to remove dirt, makeup and excess oil and dead skin cells. Use warm water to wash your face then splash with cold water at the end to tighten up your pores.
Tone your skin with a gentle toner. Avoid those containing alcohol as this will severely dry out your skin and make your acne even worse. Stick to citrus or rose water-based toners to remove dead skin cells and to give your skin a healthier glow.
Use a medicated acne cream directly on your blemishes. Benzoyl peroxide will dry up your acne lesions, but stick to concentrations of five percent or lower. Using too high of a concentration can dry out your skin even more and worsen your acne or even cause peeling. You may wish to apply this cream only at night before you go to bed to prevent drying.
Apply an oil-free moisturizer to your skin each day and night after cleansing and toning. This will keep your skin hydrated and allow your acne to heal without peeling or scabbing. Use brands that won't clog pores or are non-comedogenic to moisturize without worsening your acne.
Have large pimples drained by a dermatologist. Cystic acne is sometimes resistant to conventional over-the-counter treatments because it is a closed nodule. When a dermatologist uses a sterilized needle to drain the pus and contents from an acne lesion, it better allows medication to enter the blemish and work on healing it.
