Overview

Acne breakouts are characterized by the appearance of papules, pustules, cysts, and nodules that are often inflamed and irritated. Puss can form beneath the skin, resulting in larger acne breakouts that can be irritating and can cause most people to try and pop or pick their skin. Skin damage usually results, leaving behind marks and discolorations on the skin that can take weeks or even months to fully diminish. Luckily, there is a regimen that can be applied to the skin that can loosen scarred skin, slough off the loosened skin and increase skin cell turnover to encourage a more balanced, evenly toned complexion.

Step 1

Loosen scarred skin cells using a non-comedogenic oil, such as olive oil. Spread 1 tbsp. of olive oil onto your skin, and massage it in for 3 minutes with the fingers. Pour 8 cups of hot, boiling water into a bowl, and lean 12 to 18 inches over the bowl. Drape a towel over your head, which will force the steam to envelope the skin to open the pores. After 5 minutes, wipe off the skin with a damp washcloth. Repeat two times per day.

Step 2

Remove loosened skin cells using a mildly abrasive scrub, such as baking soda. Pour 2 tbsp. of baking soda into your hand, and drizzle 2 tsp. of water into it. Use your finger to mix the substance well, forming a paste. Spread the paste onto your skin, and massage it in with small circles for 2 minutes. Rinse off the skin with water. Repeat two times per day after loosening the acne marks.

Step 3

Increase skin cell turnover by applying a lemon juice compress. Soak 5 cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, and squeeze the excess juice out using your fingers. Place the pads onto your skin, focusing on the areas that contain the most acne marks. Leave the pads on your skin for at least 15 minutes, then remove them to let the skin dry naturally. Repeat two times per day after scrubbing the skin.
