How to Get Rid of Acne in 5 Days
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin problem in the United States. Acne is caused by a buildup of oil, dead skin, dirt and sometimes, bacteria in the follicles of the face, chest and back. An outbreak of acne can be embarrassing, especially if the individual experiencing it has a social function in the near future. Some individuals simply choose not to attend events and thus miss out on social enjoyment because of acne. Using the right techniques however, can help get rid of acne in five days.
Wash your face with antibacterial soap or an acne cleanser twice a day. Always use a clean washcloth to gently scrub the affected areas with a circular motion. Pat the areas dry with another clean, dry washcloth. Cleansing twice daily will get rid of excess dead skin, dirt and oil and will kill the bacteria that cause acne. According to MayoClinic.com, keeping affected areas clean and dry helps heal them faster and prevents new acne from forming.
Apply an over-the-counter acne cream twice a day. Be sure to purchase a cream that contains both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Apply the cream in a thin layer to the affected area ten to 15 minutes after cleansing. Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are treatments used for mild to moderate acne. Salicylic acid helps prevent new acne from developing and benzoyl peroxide dries the affected areas and kills bacteria on the surface of the skin.
Avoid touching the affected areas. The bacteria that causes acne is primarily spread through direct contact with hands, objects like cell phones, and by not using fresh towels. Never share towels and always use a fresh, clean one to wash and dry your body, including the face, chest and back. Clean towels using hot water to kill any remaining bacteria that can cause new acne to form.
Use shampoo, conditioner and cosmetics that are labeled noncomedogenic. According to MayoClinic.com, these kinds of products won't make acne worse or cause new acne to form. If you tend to get acne around your hairline, be sure to keep your hair clean and dry.
Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Some acne medications can cause your skin to react to sun with excess redness and irritation. In addition, sweating can clog pores with dirt and bacteria, thereby causing more acne. Some individuals also develop acne as a result of sun exposure. If necessary, apply a noncomedogenic sunscreen to the exposed areas of your body before going outside.
