How to Get Rid of Acne for Guys
The Nemours Teens Health website states that eight out of 10 teenagers get acne, regardless of their gender. Girls are twice as likely to be affected as boys after age 20, but some adult males do continue to get pimple outbreaks. Guys of any age can get rid of their acne by following certain steps.
Wash your face daily. Some teenage males are not fastidious about their personal hygiene. This can be an advantage with acne, because it is caused by excess dead skin cells and oil production, not uncleanliness. Teens Health explains you should limit facial washing to twice a day and refrain from scrubbing. Use warm water, a gentle cleanser and a light, circular motion. Rubbing, using harsh products or washing several times a day irritates pimples and will worsen your condition.
Apply an over-the-counter acne treatment to your pimples after washing your face. The American Dermatology Association recommends one with benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredient because it controls bacteria and gets rid of excess oil. Salicylic acid is another popular, effective treatment.
Wear sun protection on your skin. Many guys play sports or do other outdoor activities or try to get a tan in summer. Teens Health warns that too much sunshine can trigger more skin oil production, which worsens acne. Sunscreen will guard against this problem.
Avoid wearing anything against the affected skin. Hair that hangs in your face, sports helmets and hats can all irritate your skin and trigger pimples, warns the Mayo Clinic.
Take a shower after taking part in vigorous exercise or anything else that makes you sweat. Perspiration contributes to acne development, notes Teens Health. Reduce the risk by showering as soon as possible to get rid of perspiration.
Wipe your sunglasses or prescription glasses frequently. Teens Health explains that they rub against your skin and often get dirty or oily. This can lead to pimple development if you don't keep them as clean as possible.
