How to Get Rid of Acne Fast and Free
Acne is the blocking of the hair follicles with excess amounts of sebum oil, as Medical News Today notes. This oil comes from the sebaceous glands at the base of the hair follicles. When these glands become overactive the skin becomes flooded in oil which then combines with dirt and dead skin to form blockages. A blocked pore becomes inflamed and builds up with pus, eventually developing into a whitehead pimple or blind pimple known as papule. The sebaceous glands are believed to become overactive when the body is going through hormonal changes, including pregnancy or puberty.
Wrap some ice in a flannel and apply to your acne outbreak. Best used when a pimple is first developing, the ice will shrink the pore and reduce swelling and redness by restricting blood flow to the area via its intense cold. Keep the ice on the area for five minutes and do this at least twice a day.
Dab a cotton ball in milk and apply to acne. Leave the milk on for 10 minutes before rinsing. Milk is high in glycolic acid, which is a alpha-hydroxy-acid. This will mildly burn off dead skin cells and remove dirt and oils, reducing inflammation and preventing further pimples developing.
Take ibuprofen or aspirin for your acne. Take the recommended dose for the product you've purchased up to four times daily. Painkillers are anti-inflammatory drugs and so can help to calm the swelling and redness of pimples.
Apply several drops of tea tree oil onto a cotton ball and then massage into the acne. Do this three times daily. Its antiseptic properties will reduce inflammation by cleansing the skin and killing bacteria in the pores. It is also said to contain compounds which can help promote the healing of the damaged skin.
Dip a cotton ball in vinegar and apply to the acne. Leave for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Use daily. The acidic content of the vinegar acts as an anti microbe, killing off bacteria and infection, thus reducing inflammation and swelling.
