How to Get Rid of Acne Around the Nose

Not only is acne common, but also a normal part of growing up. KidsHealth reports that about 17 million people in the United States have acne. Approximately eight in 10 teens and preteens break out. Acne typically appears on the forehead, chin, cheeks and around the nose. Pimples are caused by sebaceous glands. Once you hit puberty, these glands begin producing oils that can clog pores. If you have mild to moderate acne around your nose, starting a skin care routine can eliminate blemishes and prevent breakouts.

Step 1

Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face each morning and evening before bed. Sebum can build up on your face while you're asleep, which is why your face may look oily first thing in the morning. Use an oil-free, fragrance-free cleanser. Because the glands on your can nose release more sebum than other areas on the face, you may need to wash your nose area more often.

Step 2

Use an astringent with alcohol once a day. An astringent will remove oil buildup, dirt and bacteria from your pores.

Step 3

Apply a topical treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, after using the astringent. The Mayo Clinic notes that benzoyl peroxide is one of the best acne-fighting medications available over the counter. Benzoyl peroxide medications are available in concentrations ranging from 2.5 to 10 percent. Start with the lowest dose and apply twice daily. Increase the concentration or the number of applications gradually until you find a combination that works for you.

Step 4

Exfoliate your skin two or three times a week. The abrasive ingredients in exfoliators help clean pores, but can also dry and irritate your skin if done too often.
