How to Get Rid of a Blackhead That Doesn't Go Away
Overview
When a pore remains open and becomes clogged with oil and dead skin cells, a blackhead can form. The blackhead gets its blackened appearance when exposed to air and oxidation occurs. At first, you may try pore strips and acne topical treatments to get rid of a blackhead. If these removal methods are unsuccessful, a blackhead extractor can help you remove the blemish. Blackhead extractors are stainless steel tools available at beauty supply stores.
Step 1
Wash your hands. You should create a sterile environment before attempting removal of the blackhead.
Step 2
Place your face over a bowl filled with boiling water. Cover your head with a towel to trap steam around the face. Stay in place for at least five to ten minutes. This allows the steam to open up the pores in preparation for extraction.
Step 3
Position the tip of the blackhead extractor over the blemish. Press down gently to push the blackhead out of the skin.
Step 4
Remove blackhead debris from the skin with a clean tissue. Some blackhead extractors include a scoop on one end for debris removal. Disinfect the blackhead extractor with an alcohol wipe if you plan to use it on multiple blemishes.
Step 5
Cleanse the area with a medicated blackhead scrub. To keep a new blackhead from forming and to get rid of any oil and dirt still located in the pore, you should use a scrub that contains salicylic acid. Continue use twice a day for at least two weeks after removal of the blackhead.
