How to Get Acne to Heal Quicker
Acne is a common occurrence for many people, but that doesn't make it any less embarrassing or even painful. Some people suffer more from acne than others, and there are a large number of treatments for acne of all levels. With so many solutions on the market today, knowing some methods to help acne heal faster can be very useful.
Try an over-the-counter (OTC) product to treat acne. Look for a product that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, which are both effective acne-fighting ingredients. According to the Mayo Clinic, an OTC product will address the following: "reduc[e] oil production, [speed] up skin cell turnover, [fight] bacterial infection, reduc[e] the inflammation or [do] all four."
Talk with your doctor about a prescription treatment for your acne. Prescription treatments range from topical creams to antibiotics to birth-control pills (to regulate the hormone production). It is not uncommon for treatments to be combined to see quicker and more effective action.
Start with the mildest form of treatment. Work to stronger forms if necessary, as many of these treatments have side effects.
Try natural methods of healing acne. Although the smell might be strong, rub garlic on your acne three times per day to effectively heal acne quicker. Apply lemon juice directly to the existing acne for a simple, effective treatment. For a slightly more complicated treatment, grate a cucumber and apply it to your face for 15 to 20 minutes. Or mix 1 tsp. of coriander juice or mint juice with a pinch of turmeric and apply it to your face after washing and before you go to bed for the night.
Take vitamins and minerals as a natural combatant toward acne. Consume the following supplements daily for a month: 100 mg of niacin three times a day, 50,000 international units of vitamin A three times a day, and 400 mg of vitamin E once daily.
Take zinc supplements as another effective method to heal acne quicker. Zinc supplements are found in capsule and tablet form, and the recommended usage is three doses daily of 50 mg. If you cannot find supplements in the correct dosage amount, use tablets that are scored so they can be cut in half. Take the doses for up to a month or until you notice improvement in your acne, then reduce the dosage amount to 25 mg.
