Acne can cause the skin to appear blotchy and uneven and can cause the sufferer to feel embarrassed. When a person chronically has bad skin, it can sometimes lead to acne scarring, causing marks to remain on the surface of the skin for weeks or even months after the active acne breakouts have cleared. Luckily, there are a few acne treatments that can cleanse the skin deeply, increase skin cell turnover, and treat acne so that the skin will remain clear of blemishes.

Step 1

Cleanse gently and deeply using a non-comedogenic oil, such as olive oil, that will flush out pores without causing blackheads or acne. Olive oil not only flushes out the pores, but can soften and loosen scarred, discolored skin as well. Jojoba oil will bind to the sebum and bacteria in the skin, allowing it to drain out of the skin more easily than soap can.

Pour 1 tsp. of olive oil into your palm, and spread the oil onto your skin. Use your fingers to massage the oil deeply into the skin for one to two minutes. Place a steaming hot washcloth over your skin, which will open the pores to release the blockages and oil. After the cloth cools, use it to wipe away the oil and impurities. Repeat up to two times per day.

Step 2

Tone skin with an alcohol-free toner that is high in vitamin C. This will increase the skin's ability to sough off dead skin cells.

Fill an empty spray bottle with full-strength lemon juice, and spray your skin liberally after the skin has been cleansed. Allow the skin to dry naturally. Repeat twice per day after cleansing.

Step 3

Spot treat your skin using tea tree oil, a natural, yet highly effective antibacterial oil. According to the Department of Dermatology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, tea tree oil is as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but will not cause the side effects that benzoyl peroxide does, such as burning, itching or redness.

Pour 8 oz. of water into a bottle, and add five drops of pure tea tree oil into it, mixing the two substances well. Dip a cotton swab into the diluted oil, and dab it onto acne spots up to three times per day.

Step 4

Moisturize your face using a lightweight oil that absorbs easily into the skin, such as jojoba oil. Jojoba oil can be used on acne-prone skin and skin with scarred tissues without clogging the pores. Keeping the skin properly hydrated reduces inflammation and increases the skin's suppleness, while balancing out the skin's oil production, thereby reducing the frequency of acne breakouts.

Drop three to four drops of jojoba oil into your palms, and pat the oil onto your skin, covering the entire area. Repeat twice per day.
