How to Exfoliate Dry Flakey Eyelids
Overview
Dry, flaky eyelids usually mean you have a condition called blepharitis, or eyelash dandruff. You'll need to seek treatment for this condition because it can affect your vision and the overall health of your eyes, according to the National Eye Institute. Once you've been diagnosed or if you have dry eyelid skin due to another type of dermatitis, you can add a gentle exfoliating treatment to your daily skin care routine.
Step 1
Wet a washcloth in very warm water. Apply it to your eyelids and leave it in place for five minutes or until you loosen the crust and dry skin in your eyelashes and on your eyelids, recommends MayoClinic.com.
Step 2
Mix 1 tbsp. of eye-safe baby shampoo with a cup of water.
Step 3
Dip a clean cotton ball into the baby shampoo and water solution. Dab at your eyelid and eyelashes with the cotton ball until you've removed all traces of loose flakes. Rinse the baby shampoo away with warm water.
Step 4
Follow up with a light moisturizer or with the prescription treatment given to you by your doctor.
Step 5
Repeat this treatment daily as people usually have this condition for life, according to the National Eye Institute.
