How to Eliminate Body Acne
Overview
Body acne is embarrassing not only for teens but also for adults. Getting rid of body acne takes time and may require the help of a dermatologist. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne affects mostly teenagers and young adults and in the United States is the most common skin ailment. Acne is not curable, but it is controllable. Treating acne quickly and consistently can prevent scarring, according to the AAD.
Step 1
Wash your hands before attempting to treat body acne. Bacteria that cause acne can be transmitted on the hands, according to Kids Health.
Step 2
Apply a topical medication that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to the affected areas of the body. Apply topical medications according to the manufacturer's directions.
Step 3
Gently wash the affected area at least once a day using lukewarm water. Excessive scrubbing and washing can irritate the skin.
Step 4
Consult a dermatologist if over-the-counter acne products do not reduce the severity of body acne. Dermatologists can prescribe stronger topical medications along with oral medications to fight body acne.
