How to Eliminate Acne Redness

How to Eliminate Acne Redness

Overview

Acne can develop on the skin at any point in an individual's life, but it is most likely to occur during adolescence. The severity of acne can vary from mild, isolated lesions to cases that are widespread on the body and severely red. This redness contributes significantly to the visibility of acne--pimples often become red due to inflammation and swelling in the location, and this can also affect the sensitivity of the zit. By eliminating the redness of acne, you can make it less noticeable and embarrassing. There are a few different things you can do to drain the color from your acne and attain a more natural skin tone.

Step 1

Wear loose-fitting clothing if your acne is on your chest or back. Tight-fitting clothing will create more friction when rubbed on your skin, and it will also make the area around your acne hotter and more humid, which both promote redness and swelling.

Step 2

Wear sunscreen when you are outdoors. The sun's rays can damage acne, which is more sensitive to sunlight, and this can lead to more swelling and inflammation.

Step 3

Apply an anti-inflammatory cream as needed to your acne. These medications can be purchased in various dosage strengths, with some available over the counter and others requiring a prescription. Depending on the strength of the cream, you may need to apply the medication several times each day. Anti-inflammatory creams will reduce the presence of blood under the skin where acne exists, reducing and sometimes eliminating redness of your acne.

Step 4

Apply a concealing makeup to hide the redness of your acne if you need fast results, or if other methods of treatment fail to entirely remove the redness from your acne. Makeup is only a temporary solution, but it can take out much of the red tone of your acne in just a couple minutes, according to Daily Glow.
