How to Do Spa Skin Care
The appeal of spas is their ability to help clients block out stressors and relax in a calm environment. Spa skin care is primarily focused on supporting or maintaining healthy skin. Albeit luxurious, this regimen can be replicated at home. Creating a neutral environment, free of distractions, is as important as the skin care regimen.
Choose a space in the home that is relaxing, free of clutter and distractions. It should also have enough space to accommodate the products and supplies needed for the treatment. Some people choose to use their bathroom, depending on the treatment being performed. Allot plenty of time to perform the necessary treatment, so that it feels like a special treat.
Find a brand of skin care products that will best treat your skin problems. These products should be appropriate for the your skin type: for example, dry, oily, combination or normal. Most spas sell the products they use during their spa treatments, which can be used at home.
Cleanse the skin. Apply the appropriate cleanser, gently massaging the skin. Your skin can be rinsed by flushing with water or using a clean washcloth to remove the cleanser. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is important to handle the skin gently to prevent causing damage or irritation.
Exfoliate and nourish the skin. Exfoliation is an important part of skin care because it removes dead cells that may have accumulated. This accumulation may cause skin to feel rough or to appear dry and can cause acne. Many clients visit the spa every six weeks for a professional facial. Marie Claire magazine advises that you can achieve the same results by exfoliating and applying a mask each week. You should be aware that exfoliants for the face and body are distinctly different. An exfoliant is a product that contains sand-like granules which remove dead skin cells. Exfoliants for the face should contain very fine granules suitable for more delicate skin. Use a clean washcloth saturated with warm water to gently remove the exfoliant and dead skin. A mask can be applied to neutralize skin and reduce any inflammation caused by the exfoliation.
Moisturize the skin. Moisturizing the skin is vitally important to ensuring that it’s healthy. Many people focus on the skin on the face but Marie Claire says that it is often easy to detect signs of aging by observing the skin on the neck. Marie Claire advises treating skin on face and neck equally by cleansing and moisturizing uniformly.
