Acne is a common skin condition caused by hair follicles under the skin that become clogged with oils and other impurities. The Mayo Clinic says that although acne is stereotypically associated with adolescents due to hormonal changes and overproduction of oils, acne can affect people well into adulthood. Although there are many doctor-recommended treatments and over-the-counter products, natural alternatives are available to ease the symptoms of acne. These natural remedies decrease acne without the use of harsh chemicals or irritating preservatives.

Step 1

Combine 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup soap and 1 tbsp. of water and stir. This potent honey cleanser should be massaged into the skin in circular motions and rinsed off the face with lukewarm water. Honey contains many nutrients, including potassium, which reduces bacteria in acne blemishes to heal them faster.

Step 2

Use witch hazel as an oil-absorbing astringent to follow the honey cleanser. Witch hazel has antioxidant properties and decreases inflammation while cleaning leftover residue that remains on the face.

Step 3

Dilute 1 part apple cider vinegar in 4 parts water and apply with a cotton ball directly to blemishes, before bed. Apple cider vinegar helps dissolve blemishes and clear away bacteria.

Step 4

Moisturize the face with aloe vera gel. Aloe vera is anti-inflammatory, healing, soothing and softening. Acne-prone skin often becomes dry due to chemicals from treatments. Aloe helps prevent and correct this problem.
