How to Cure Dry Skin Under the Eyes
Dry skin under the eyes can develop for a variety of reasons, including environmental and health factors. Dryness can give a dark or reddened appearance to the skin under your eyes. Dry skin also causes itchiness and flaking, which may eventually lead to wrinkling. If you have dry skin under your eyes, you may be wondering how to correct the problem. Lifestyle changes and some TLC can help cure the problem and return a smoother, more youthful glow to your eye area.
Stop smoking. If you are a smoker, you may want to consider quitting; especially, when you see the effect that the habit is taking on your skin. Select a smoking quit aid if quitting cold turkey is impossible.
Wash your face and eye area with a mild soap and warm---not hot---water. Hot water robs your skin of moisture. Rinse your face with cool water after washing.
Drink at least eight, 8-oz. glasses of water per day to help keep your skin hydrated. Although clear water is the best, water from natural fruit juices can also help.
Watch your diet. Whole grain foods, fruits and veggies will provide you with vitamins A and B, which will help keep the skin under your eyes and all over your body, healthy.
Calm and hydrate dry, irritated skin under your eyes by mixing equal parts of aloe Vera gel and olive oil. Pour ½ tsp. of aloe Vera gel and ½ tsp. of olive oil into a small, disposable cup and stir with a spoon to combine. Apply the mixture to the skin under your eyes using your fingertips each night before bed.
Stay out of the sun, which can age your skin and cause damage and dryness. Wear a hat and sunglasses if you cannot avoid the sun. Also, apply an eye cream with a UVA/UVB sunscreen before heading outdoors.
