Overview

Acne is inflammation of areas of the skin as a result of over activity of oil glands at the base of hair follicles. This happens when oil (sebaceous) glands manifest, most commonly during male and female puberty. Although acne is commonly found on one's face, it can also be found on other areas of the body. Some signs are blackheads, whiteheads, itchy, scarring or redness of the skin. Being aware of these signs can be the first line of defense in learning how to fight and get rid of acne permanently.

Step 1

Find out what is causing your acne. Aside from life's pubertal stages, there are other contributing factors. Be aware of contributing factors such as genetics, your environment, lifestyle and your diet. Psychological and social factors such as work, relationships and stress can contribute to adult acne. Find out if you are taking any medications that cause acne, such as dilantine and prednisone.

Step 2

Commit to a daily skin care regimen and practice proper hygiene. Wash your face twice daily. Over-washing can irritate healthy skin and stimulate extra oil production, which can lead to more breakouts. Try not to touch your face, as bacteria from objects you touch can be transmitted into your pores.

Step 3

Men should be careful when shaving by using the right kind of razor. Be sure to prep your skin with warm water and create a generous amount of lather. This will reduce your chances of hair getting trapped into the follicles which leads to acne and razor bumps. Make-up can be a trigger for acne, therefore women should stay clear of products that can irritate the skin. Hypo-allergenic products are said to be less harsh. Remove your make-up with cold cream before going to bed, wash your face thoroughly and finish with a light moisturizer.

Step 4

Exercise regularly, as sweat helps to release toxins from the body, including those that cause bacteria. However, be sure to shower immediately after exercising. Sweat buildup in clothes and on the skin creates bacteria which results in acne. If acne persists, consult with a dermatologist .
