If you have large open pores, you may be prone to acne. The Yale School of Medicine explains that open pores absorb excess oils and sebum from the skin, which harden and form blockages that result in acne. Closing these enlarged pores and keeping the oils out requires the use of a cleanser that will clean out the pores and an astringent that will dry up the excess oils and close the enlarged pores.

Step 1

Wash your face with your favorite facial cleanser, just as you normally would. Pat your skin dry afterward using a clean towel.

Step 2

Saturate a cotton ball with an astringent, such as witch hazel, or a facial toner. The coolness of the toner will tighten your pores.

Step 3

Rub the cotton ball over your skin to close your pores. Allow the toner to air-dry on your skin.
