How to Clear Your Skin & Have Spots Disappear
Everyone's skin is different, so what works to clear one person's skin of spots won't necessarily work for another person. However, when it comes to having healthy, acne-free skin, there is one simple equation that most sources seem to agree with: cleanse, tone, moisturize, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. Visiting a dermatologist is also a good idea, as he can assess your individual skin and develop a treatment plan that is made specifically for you.
Cleanse your skin with a non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, oil-free cleanser. Non-comedogenic means it is less likely to clog pores and hypoallergenic means it is less likely to contain ingredients that will cause allergies. Choose a cleanser that is soap-free as this will be less drying to the skin.
Use a toner after cleansing. Toner helps to clarify the skin and tighten the pores, and it removes excess impurities and oil that cleansing may leave behind. Choose a toner that is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic and apply it with a cotton ball after you cleanse.
Moisturize. Even acne-prone skin needs moisture. In fact, dry skin can cause spots just as much as oily skin because it forms a layer over the pores, causing them to become clogged. Choose a light, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, oil-free moisturizer made for sensitive skin.
Eat right. Improper nutrition will show up on your skin and can lead to acne. Stay away from greasy, sugary, caffeinated foods and beverages and eat fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish and chicken.
Drink plenty of water. Hydration helps the skin flush toxins from the body. If you are dehydrated, those impurities get stuck in the skin, leading to acne and other skin ailments. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day and more if you exercise.
Consult your doctor or dermatologist. If you have moderate or severe acne, you may benefit from medication that only your doctor can prescribe for you.
