How to Clear Pores
Pores are tiny holes in the surface of your skin where hair follicles grow. When pores get clogged by dirt, bacteria, oil or other debris, the blockage causes pimples to erupt on your skin. Keeping your pores clean and healthy is one of the best ways to prevent acne, so learning how to clear pores is an important part of an effective skin care regimen.
Wash your face with a mild cleanser twice a day. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing your skin. Remove all traces of makeup from your skin. Use a towel to pat your skin dry--don't rub it.
Don't touch your face with your hands or fingers. If you're prone to face touching, wash your hands often throughout the day to minimize the oil and other debris on them.
Choose water-based face creams and makeup to minimize your risk of developing clogged pores.
Wash your hair regularly, especially if it's oily. Use barrettes or ponytail holders to keep hair out of your face.
Don't pick at pimples when they appear; doing so will make them worse. Instead, continue your regular skin care regimen and apply a little salicylic acid directly to the blemish at night to help dry it up more quickly.
Visit a dermatologist if your clogged pores persist. A dermatologist can prescribe an oral or topical medication to help prevent your pores from clogging and causing acne.
