The dark spots on your skin are age spots that form when you stay in the sun for too long. Your dark spots appear when the amount of melanin in your skin increases because of sun exposure. The sun kills the collagen and elastin in your skin, which then ages at a much faster rate; collagen and elastin are responsible for keeping your skin young-looking. You can clear the dark spots on your skin by cleaning your skin the correct way, using natural ingredients and taking the right medication.

Step 1

Use lemon juice to clear the dark spots on your skin. Lemon juice contains a high amount of a bleaching agent that can clear your dark spots over time. Buy a real lemon or a bottle of lemon juice and pour a half cup of the juice into a bowl. Take a cotton ball and dip into that juice so that you soak the juice into the cotton call. Rub that juice into the dark spots on your skin and let the juice evaporate.

Step 2

Buy an over-the-counter medicine to clear the dark spots on your skin. You can buy a cream at your local pharmacy that can reduce and clear your dark spots. The Mayo Clinic says you should buy an over-the-counter cream that contains bleach, steroids or retinoids. If you don't find this method works for you, you should see your doctor for a prescription medication.

Step 3

Stay away from the sun, which causes dark spots on your skin more than anything else. It is impossible to keep out of the sun 100 percent of the time, so when you are in the sun, make sure you cover your dark spots. Wear long sleeves, long pants, sunglasses and a hat to protect your skin. Also make sure you use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

Step 4

Rub a hard-fiber loofah into your skin to remove the dead skin and clear the dark spots. When you remove the top layer of your skin, you get rid of the dead skin that contains the highest amount of melanin--the pigment that makes your skin turn dark. Use your loofah at least three times a week to continually remove dead skin cells.

Step 5

Use buttermilk on your skin to clear the dark spots. Like lemon juice, buttermilk contains a natural bleach that can, over time, get rid of your dark spots. Pour about a half cup of buttermilk into a bowl and dip a cotton ball into the liquid. Take that cotton ball and run the buttermilk into the age spots on your skin. Let the liquid evaporate into your skin.
