How to Clear Blemishes Naturally

Acne blemishes are a problem that plagues many people, especially during the teenage years. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 85 percent of all people will have acne at some point in their lives. The most commonly recommended tips for clearing acne include drinking more water, washing your face twice a day, and using a chemical-based acne treatment cream, such as benzoyl peroxide. For those who want to avoid the creams, natural alternatives may work just as well to clear up existing blemishes.

Step 1

Try using tea tree oil, which is from the Melaleuca Alternafolia tree and has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. According to the website Inside Cosmeceuticals, applying a 5 percent tea tree oil solution, usually in the form of a gel, directly to blemishes will help to dry the acne-creating oil and make them go away faster.

Step 2

Apply toothpaste directly to blemishes. Dr. Audrey Kunin says that toothpaste can help dry out pimples and make them disappear faster. Kunin says toothpaste is especially effective in treating whiteheads.

Step 3

Use glycolic acid. This acid, naturally present in sugar cane, is found in many acne treatments and helps remove dead skin cells. Glycolic acid may also reduce acne scars.

Step 4

Take zinc supplements.Zinc supplements reduce inflammation and help with wound healing, which may also improve acne.
