How to Clear Bad Skin


If you have bad skin, you may suffer from a host of annoying problems. Acne, blackheads, pimples and greasy skin can make you want to pull your hair out at times. Although skin conditions may have a genetic basis, other conditions can be caused by poor skin care or environmental issues such as smog, sun exposure and dirt. Although these conditions can be irritating at best, you can help to clear up your skin by following a simple skin care regimen.

Step 1

Wash your face in the morning and before bedtime with a medicated, mild acne soap. According to TeensHealth website, you should not over-scrub or wash too vigorously, as this can actually cause further breakouts and irritation. Use cool water to avoid over-drying, which can lead to excess oil production.

Step 2

Apply an oil-fighting astringent or toner after washing. Use a cotton ball to gently swab your face with the solution, paying particular attention to the T-zone, which is T-shaped area formed by your forehead, nose and chin. The T-zone contains many oil-producing glands, and breakouts often occur in this area.

Step 3

Moisturize your face with an anti-acne moisturizer containing acne-fighting ingredients, such as salicylic acid. According to the American Academy of Dermatology's AcneNet, you should look for oil-free products that are labelled as non-comedogenic, meaning they won't clog your pores. You might think you don't need moisturizer if you have oily skin, however, these products can add moisture while helping to prevent breakouts and pimples.

Step 4

Use a weekly facial treatment prepared from fresh carrot juice. According to Janice Cox in her book "Natural Beauty at Home," carrots have strong antiseptic qualities that make them beneficial for use on blemished skin. You can purchase carrot juice or make your own from fresh carrots using a blender, food processor or juicer. Mix together 1/4 cup fresh carrot juice with 1/4 cup natural clay. Apply this mixture to your face, letting it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Step 5

Make an appointment to see a dermatologist if you have persistent or excessive acne. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, many prescription medications are available that can help to lessen and clear up acne.
