How to Clear Acne Dark Spots


Acne pustules, papules and cysts can cause the skin to become inflamed and irritated. If you pick or poke at them, they can leave behind unsightly dark spots that take a long time to fade. These skin discolorations can cause the skin to appear blotchy and uneven. Fortunately, there are a few ways to diminish and eliminate acne dark spots that involves loosening the discolorations, scrubbing the loosened skin off using a gentle exfoliant and balancing the skin tone by applying a compress that helps rebuild new skin cells.

Step 1

Loosen dark acne spots by applying an olive oil facial. Pour 1 tbsp. olive oil into the hands; rub the hands together to distribute the oil evenly. Place the hands onto the face, slowly and deeply spreading the oil around. Use the fingers to apply targeted pressure around the areas that are affected most by dark acne spots. After about three minutes, fill a bowl with nearly boiling water. Lean over it, but no closer than 12 inches. Drape a towel over your head to force the steam to envelop your face. This will further soften and loosen scarred and discolored skin. After five to 10 minutes, wipe off the oil with a cool washcloth.

Step 2

Scrub off darkened skin discolorations by applying a gentle and natural facial exfoliant. In a bowl, combine 2 tbsp. baking soda, 1 tbsp. raw oats and 3 tbsp. honey. Spread the mixture onto the skin; use your palms to massage the scrub around the face. Do not press too firmly; a moderate pressure is all that is needed to remove the loosened discolorations. After two to three minutes, rinse the skin well with warm water to remove the exfoliant.

Step 3

Balance out the skin tone by applying a compress that will support the development of new skin cells. Soak six cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, which has a high content of Vitamin C. Vitamin C works to rebuild new skin cells, effectively helping to balance out the skin tone by repairing irritations and developing new skin. Place the lemon juice-soaked pads onto the skin; one for the chin, one for each cheek, one for the nose and two for the forehead. Allow the pads to remain on the skin for five minutes. Remove them to let the skin naturally dry.
