How to Cleanse Blackheads How to Cleanse Blackheads

Overview

Blackheads are bumps on the surface of the skin that get their name from their blackened or yellowed appearance. An overproduction of oil in the sebaceous glands causes an accumulation to form in the pores of the skin. It is not dirt that causes the blackened appearance, but oxidation of the oil that is clogging the pore. As part of treatment for the blackheads, you need to learn how to properly cleanse the blemishes. Washing the skin on a regular basis can also prevent future outbreaks of blackheads.

Step 1

Expose your skin to steam. Steam exposure can open your pores to better cleanse the blackheads. You can either take a hot shower to open the pores or place your face over a bowl of hot water for five minutes or more. Keep a towel over your head to better trap the steam.

Step 2

Choose an exfoliating face wash. A facial scrub can help get rid of excess skin cells and oil trapped in the pores that are causing the blackheads. Look for one that contains salicylic acid as well, a treatment ingredient for acne. One example of a face wash you can try is Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub.

Step 3

Clean your hands before touching your face. Wet your face with warm water. Place a moderate amount of the facial cleanser on your fingertips. Apply the cleanser all over your face. Massage the blackhead areas using the cleanser for 20 to 30 seconds.

Step 4

Rinse away the cleanser. Repeat use of the product daily until you notice the blackheads have cleared up.
