Overview

Acne-prone skin is typically more inflamed and irritated than normal skin. Many people try to use a standard facial cleanser to wash their acne-prone skin. However, regular soaps and cleansers usually contain harsh chemicals that can irritate acne-prone skin and can even exacerbate skin inflammations. Luckily, there are ways to clean your face without irritating your acne.

Step 1

Cleanse your skin with a soap designed for sensitive skin types. These soaps will not contain the harsh chemical ingredients often found in regular soaps and cleansers. Moisten your skin well with water, then lather it up gently with a sensitive-skin soap. Spread the lather around your skin, then rinse the skin clean with water. Wash your face in this manner two times per day.

Step 2

Cleanse your skin with a non-comedogenic (non-pore-clogging) oil, such as castor oil. Since oil bonds more easily to other oil than soap does, applying a non-comedogenic oil to the skin is an effective way to clean the skin and flush out the pores. Spread 1 to 2 tsp. of castor oil onto your skin and use your fingers to massage it into your pores. This will bind the castor oil to the oils and impurities in the skin. Drape a steaming hot washcloth over your face, which will force the pores to open and will allow the oils to flush out. Once the washcloth has cooled down completely, use it to gently wipe away the oils. Cleanse your skin with castor oil twice per day.

Step 3

Cleanse your skin with oatmeal. Oatmeal is naturally high in vitamins and nutrients, and it possesses the ability to absorb excess oil on the skin. To use oatmeal as a skin cleanser, combine 1/2 cup of raw oats in a bowl with 1 cup of boiling water. Allow the oatmeal to cool down, then use your fingers to spread it onto your skin. Massage the oatmeal onto your skin for two minutes, then leave it on your face for an additional five minutes. Rinse off the oatmeal with warm water and pat your skin dry with a towel. Use oatmeal as a cleanser twice per day.
