How to Absorb Oil From Your Face How to Absorb Oil From Your Face How to Absorb Oil From Your Face

Overview

According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," an oily face is both aesthetically unpleasing, looking very shiny, but also a health risk because the oil acts as a trap for bacteria. Powder and facial-blotting papers are both commonly used to absorb oil from the face, according to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," but powder has a tendency to give a caked appearance, making facial-blotting papers, which can be purchased at drug stores, the method of choice to remove excess oil from the face.

Step 1

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. According to "Braun-Falco's Dermatology," touching your face or the facial-blotting papers with soiled hands can introduce bacteria and additional oils to your face.

Step 2

Cleanse your face as you usually do. Apply cosmetics if you desire.

Step 3

Remove a single facial-blotting paper from its package. Be careful to avoid having the facial-blotting paper touch any unclean surface, which could transmit bacteria to the paper that will later be used on the face.

Step 4

Blot your face gently with the facial-blotting paper, focusing primarily on the areas in which you notice excess oil. Use a different section of the paper for each blot for maximum absorption of excess oil.

Step 5

Discard the facial-blotting paper. According to "Cosmetic Dermatology: Principles and Practice," if you need to absorb additional oil from your face later in the day, use a new facial-blotting paper. Cleansing your face is not necessary. You can simply use the paper to absorb any excess oil on your skin or over your makeup.
