How Can You Get Rid of Acne With Dry Skin?

Acne can happen on any type of skin, including oily, sensitive, combination or dry skin. When acne occurs on dry skin, it can be difficult to know how to effectively treat the skin. Most acne treatment products are created from harsh chemical ingredients that can cause peeling, redness and burning on the skin. For people with dry skin types, using some of the standard acne products on the skin can cause severe irritation. Luckily, people with dry skin can effectively clear their skin by using a few gentle products.

Step 1

Cleanse the skin with oatmeal. Oatmeal is not only soothing to irritated skin, but is also helpful in cleansing and moisturizing the skin. Using oatmeal as a cleanser can help avoid irritation that could happen from standard soaps and cleansers.

Pour 1/2 cup of oats into a bowl, and add 1 cup of boiling water into it. Allow the mixture to cool completely, then spread the oatmeal onto wet skin. Use your fingers to massage the oatmeal into the skin for three minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. Repeat twice per day.

Step 2

Apply salicylic acid gel to the entire affected area. Salicylic acid gel regulates the rate at which the skin cells are sloughed away. This can keep the pores more clear and free of entrapment. Using salicylic acid will not dry out the skin like benzoyl peroxide creams can.

Squeeze a dime-sized amount of salicylic acid gel onto your fingers, and spread the gel onto the skin. Gently glide your fingers over the skin until the salicylic acid gel has soaked in. Repeat twice per day after cleansing the skin with oatmeal.

Step 3

Use a non-comedogenic oil, such as jojoba, to properly hydrate the skin. (Non-comedogenic means it will not clog the pores.)

Pour two to four drops of jojoba oil into your palm, and rub the hands together gently to distribute the oil evenly between the hands. Carefully pat the skin to apply the oil in a thin layer on the face. Allow the oil to soak in completely. Repeat twice per day after the salicylic acid gel has been absorbed.
