Homeopathy Remedies for Acne

Acne does not just affect teenagers. Acne.org states that 25 percent of adult men and 50 percent of adult women have acne at some point in their adult life. While many harsh chemical-based treatments or painful medical procedures exist for this skin condition, many safe, natural, and effective ways also exist for treating acne. It is recommended to contact a professional homeopath to find the homeopathic remedies that may work the best. Some common homeopathic remedies include stress reduction, steam and tea tree oil.

Stress Reduction

Reducing stress levels help to get hormones back in the proper balance, advises Jenny Hwozdek, who practice homeopathic medicine at Nittany Mountain Homeopathy in Lemont, Pennsylvania. She advises that each person reacts to situations differently, requiring each person to identify his own stressors. Once you have identified your stressors, you have in your life and work to avoid them or reduce them. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing, meditation, yoga and regular exercise will also reduce stress.

Steam

Depending on your acne you may want to use steam from a sauna or steam room, or you may want to perform a facial steam, advise experts at Adult Acne Treatments. A physician should be consulted before going into a sauna or steam room.

Saunas or steam rooms are best for people with body acne. The steam opens the pores, encourages perspiration, and increases circulation. This removes toxins from the body and sooths it. You do not want to stay in a sauna or steam room for more than 20 minutes advises Hwozdek. After being in a sauna or steam room, you should take a cool shower to close your pores. You also want to drink six to eight glasses of water throughout the rest of the day to rehydrate yourself.

To perform a facial steam, you need a bowl or sink full of steamy hot water and a large towel. Position your face 10 to 12 inches from the water and cover your head with the towel. Remain over the steamy water for five to 10 minutes. You may want to set a timer. Complete the treatment by rinsing your face with cool water and applying a toner like witch hazel, advises Hwozdek.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil comes from the leaves of the Melaneuca tree, according to Brown University Health Education. Similar to benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil reduces oil production and fights against acne causing bacteria. However, tea tree oil does not cause the itching, burning or peeling associated with benzoyl peroxide.

Other Homeopathic Medicines

Various homeopathic medicines can help in reducing, improving or limiting acne. The University of Michigan Health System advises that calcarea carbonica may help improve the skin's resistance to infection for some people. Hepar sulphuris calcareum may be helpful for those with painful lesions. Pulsatilla may help acne that gets worse when a person eats rich or fatty foods. Silicea may help a person with acne that has a low immune system. Sulphur may help eruptions that are inflamed, reddish or dirty looking.
