Homemade Ways to Get Rid of Acne
Acne is caused when glands over-produce an oily substance called sebum in the hair follicles, which combines with dead skin cells and clogs pores. The follicles then become inflamed, forming a whitehead, blackhead or pimple. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, no one knows what causes the overproduction of sebum, although hormones are thought to be a factor. There are several natural remedies that you can try at home to help treat acne, though it is important to first check with a dermatologist before trying alternative treatments.
Lemon Juice and Rose Water
Slice each of the lemons in half. Squeeze the lemon halves by hand or with a citrus juicer until you have several ounces of juice in a glass.
Measure the amount of lemon juice you have and pour it into a container that has a lid.
Take the rose water and measure the same amount, pouring that into the same container as the lemon juice.
Mix the lemon juice and rose water.
Wash your face. Apply the lemon juice and rose water mixture onto your skin. Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.
Rinse your skin and pat dry. Apply your favorite moisturizer.
Cap the mixture and store it in the refrigerator.
Cut one leaf off of the aloe vera plant. Slit the leaf down the middle.
Let the yellow latex drain down the sink. The latex may cause irritation to the skin.
Remove the thick skin of the leaf and rinse the gel under cool water. Apply the gel the acne spots. Avoid the gel in the eye area.
Store the rest of the gel in an air tight container in a refrigerator. It will keep for about a week. Aloe vera is said to soothe the skin and help with inflammation.
