Homemade Remedies for Open Pores
Clogged pores are a common skin problem for many people, though the cause can vary. For many, over productive sebaceous glands are the problem. Luckily, there are some homemade treatments that use essential oils to help open clogged pores according to Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," and Julia Lawless, author of "The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils: The Complete Guide to The Use of Aromatic Oils In Aromatherapy, Herbalism, Health and Well Being."
Combine sweet fennel essential oil, geranium essential oil, grapefruit essential oil, palmarosa essential oil, lemon essential oil and jojoba oil in a small container with a tight-fitting lid.
Cover the container and shake it for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the ingredients.
Place a clean cotton ball in a small bowl. Pour 2 tbsp. of the essential oil mixture onto the cotton ball. Allow the cotton to soak up the oil for about 1 minute.
Dab the soaked cotton pad on the skin for 1 to 2 minutes. Leave the excess oil that stays on the skin on for 20 minutes.
Rinse your skin with cool, clean water. Wash with a gentle cleanser and pat dry with a clean cotton towel or disposable towels.
Apply your regular moisturizer after drying your skin. Avoid clothing or contact with materials until your moisturizer has fully dried.
Use this treatment daily as needed. Discontinue use if the oil mixture causes extreme redness, sensitivity or swelling.
Store unused portions of the mixture in a cool, dark and dry place like the medicine cabinet or kitchen cupboard between uses. Discard the mixture after 90 days.
